What We Do

Outdoor Seats / Benches on Walking Tracks

We build wooden benches and locate them at approved scenic positions on walking tracks to allow walkers somewhere to sit while resting and admiring the views!  Ten benches have been installed to date with more on the way.  This is on ongoing project.

Facilities at Baysports Soccer Clubrooms

As part of the construction of the soccer clubrooms we built the terraced seating alongside the main pitch for spectator comfort and finished off the fit out of the kitchen and toilet facilities within the clubrooms.

Lonsdale Park Outdoor Education Camp Facilities

We excavated an area for a fire-pit, constructed seating around the pit and built a concrete path for access.

SH10 Picnic Area Shelter and Table

We constructed a picnic shelter, a table and associated benches in a lay-by beside the Kerikeri River on SH10 immediately south of Waipapa Village .  This shelter is very popular and gets daily use by travellers.

Book Fair

We have organised a Book Fair for the community each year for around 20 years.  Responsibility for the Book Fair is currently being handed over to the Life Education Trust.  They will run the Book Fair in the future but have asked us to assist them with the transition and in the running of the 2021 Fair.  The Life Education Trust will announce the timing, venue and general arrangements for the 2021 Fair and also arrangements for collection of donated books.

Adventure Film Evening

We run an annual Adventure Film Festival in conjunction with the Kerikeri Mountain Bike Club with the films being supplied by the NZ Mountain Film Festival.  Our objectives are to enthuse our local community to get out and have some adventures. The festival is held at the Cathay Cinema in Kerikeri with up to 150 viewers able to attend a session.

Street Party Marshalling – The Kerikeri Business Association puts on a street party after the annual Kerikeri half marathon. Our club provided marshals at the entrances to the street party.

Community Noticeboard –  In Kerikeri we have provided a very successful notice board in the main street which can be used by the public for a small fee .  This fee is then collected and put back into the community.

Wishing Well – We built and service a wishing well which is situated at the Stone Store.  Proceeds are donated to Hospice.

Speech Competition – We organise the smaller, rural, primary schools in our area to get together each year and participate in a speech comp. We provide the judges and prizes.

Challenge Camp – We send local youths to a week-long live-in Challenge Camp.  This camp matches approx 25 physically disabled young people of 16-24 years, with our International Exchange Students as caregivers and buddies for the week (numbers depend on how many exchange students are here in NZ). Facing the many challenges together proves to be a highly rewarding growth experience for all.

Sponsorship – We provide regular sponsorship to a number of local clubs and service groups including:

  •  Youth Sailing – Each year our club transfers 1000s of books from our storage facilities to the Bay Sports complex, then back into storage after our annual Book Fair. With the tremendous help of the Kerikeri High School Sailors (and Parents), this onerous task is completed within a few hours. The Book Fair would not be the success it is without Youth Sailings invaluable help; in return, Waipapa Rotary makes a donation to help keep them afloat!
  • Kerikeri Mountain Bike Club – The Kerikeri Mountain Bike Club has done a marvellous job of building tracks in the Waitangi Forest for local riders (and visitors) to use. Waipapa Rotary recognises the excellent job this club does in encouraging and developing juniors and providing recreational facilities for the general public to enjoy.  Waipapa Rotary has supported the building of a number of feature tracks.
